I Don’t Believe in New Year’s Resolutions: How to Get a Fit Booty WITHOUT the Broken Promises To Yourself

I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. To this day, I don’t think there’s one that I’ve consistently stuck to - even my resolve to get a fit booty. In fact, 80% of New Year’s resolutions that people make get broken within the first week.

That’s a lot of promises. Sure, they might have great intentions, and lofty goals. But they don’t actually stick with it. Instead, they become another statistic - yet another person in the mad January dash to a new start.

This is what typically happens:

We make a nice-sounding goal for ourselves and stick with it for a couple days. Then, the weight of the commitment really starts to set in. In the mornings, we don’t want to get up early, and things that we can do today are pushed off for another day because we “don’t feel like it”.

Sound familiar?

After a while, we begin to fall into our old habits and routine again, putting things off for another year. Our fit booty goals, or whatever goals you have, get wrapped up and placed on the shelf for another year.

What To Do Instead

Instead of continuing through this endless cycle, there are a few things you can do differently to get yourself on the right path.

1. Don’t Make Huge Goals Without A Plan

Many times, we get caught up in the idea of having a fit body. At New Years, we picture ourselves wearing slim clothing showing off all the right curves. We never think about what it takes to actually lose the weight and tone our bodies.

We just imagine ourselves in a gorgeous dress out at a party, taking in compliments left and right, and even getting “that look” from a few potential SO’s. Yeah, you know the look I’m talking about.

But if you want to dress up, you’ve got to show up. And the best way to do that is to make a plan.

Then, break down that plan into smaller, bite-sized pieces that you can put into practice every day. A goal of losing 5 lbs. In two weeks is much less intimidating than saying “50 pounds in two months!”. It’s baby steps.

2. No Pain, No Gain

Sometimes, it’s the difficult things that cause the greatest growth. If you want a fit booty, you’re going to have to put in the effort for it. The only shortcuts available - diet pills and implants - will not only cost you thousands of dollars, they will wreck your body, too. If you want to tone up the right way, it’s going to take work.

Luckily, there is something to be said for determination. Sometimes being determined can be a good thing. While you’re making your fitness plan, make sure it’s actionable and make the decision - not resolution - to follow through with it.

If you’re determined and you’ve decided to make up your mind, nothing can sway you. Not even that surprise chocolate cake for your coworker’s birthday.

3. Get Back On Your Feet

Sometimes, slip-ups are inevitable. We might not be able to get to the gym because our kids are sick. Or, we might actually indulge in the cake at work. When it comes to weight loss, everyone has their setbacks.

But you know what the difference between someone who makes a silly resolution and someone who is determined to lose weight? The ones who are determined Get. Back. Up. They don’t wait for another January to roll around before they try again. They simply get back up and are on their way the very next day.

I know that the lack of shortcuts might not be the easiest thing to hear. But I promise you that it will all be worth it in the end. You don’t know the kind of strength you have inside you until it’s put to the test. And I promise to bring out that strong, inner goddess in you. You got this.
